Another spectacular day in the Red Centre, this time in Kata Tjuta.
We made a slow start to the day. No reason to hurry here. After breakfast in our cabin, and calling in to the cafe at Town Square to pick up take away sandwiches and coffees, we hit the road around 10. We drove back into the National Park and on to Kata Tjuta, about 50 kms from Uluru. Kata Tjuta is an extraordinary sight coming in and out of view, as the road winds around a few gentle hills. But it wasn't until we were up close and walking 'inside' that I appreciated its grandeur.
There are a few walks to choose from - something to suit just about every visitor. We chose the Valley of the Winds circular route and, after lunch, the shorter Walpa Gorge walk. The scenery was stunning, with the rich red rock above and underfoot, wildflowers starting to bloom, and always that bright blue sky. We loved every minute.
Like most Australians, I'd seen many images of The Olgas in photos and films. And I knew I would enjoy a first hand experience of the colours and shapes of this landscape. But I've found it to be far beyond what I had imagined - far more beautiful. Domi says Majestueux. Majestic. Je suis d'accord. I agree.
I think my photos tell the story of the weather we've enjoyed since arriving here. (Can it really be just two days ago? The French and I feel we've experienced so much already.) Clear sunny days with blue, blue skies. Though the nights and early mornings are cold - minimum of 3 predicted overnight - daytime temperatures have been in the high teens, ideal walking weather. And it looks set to be even warmer tomorrow.
Perfect.

PS. I've included photos of the Field of Lights installation we wandered through last night, but my camera and I were not really up to the task. It's worth 'getting on the Google' to see and learn more. The installation is here until the end of March 2017.
